This is a simple, friendly resource about ‘food’ and ‘eating’ in Spanish for younger students.

The verbs are all in the present tense.  There are examples of ESTAR + the gerund.  E.g.
Está comiendo    -  he is eating
Está masticando –  he is chewing

This grammar resource offers audio, interesting images and subtitles to give clear examples of when you MUST use POR rather than PARA and vice-versa. Listen, join in, pause and repeat.

(To avoid confusion ‘Doing something on behalf of someone else’ – POR – as opposed to ‘doing something for someone‘ PARA – is not included in the resource below but do consider it too when you are ready)

Verbs are in the present tense and in the 1st person:
preparo, ayudo, termino, estudio, pongo, descanso, como, ceno, salgo, vuelvo, voy, juego, hago, leo …
A number of Spanish verbs which are reflexive (i.e. something is done to oneself) are included:
despertarse (to wake up),   levantarse (to get up),   vestirse (to get dressed),
lavarse (to get washed),  acostarse (to go to bed)

Me visto  =         I get (myself) dressed  =  I get dressed  …  (Me =  ’me’ or ‘myself’)
Me lavo   =         I get (myself) washed  =  I get washed
Me acuesto  =     I put (myself) to bed      =  I go to bed
Me despierto  =   I wake (myself) up         =  I wake up
Me levanto  =      I get (myself) up            =  I get up

(By the way, as ‘reflexive verbs’ are being mentioned, if you drop something in Spanish, you don’t say ‘I dropped it’  …  the correct thing to say is:
Se cayó =  it fell  …!!  It dropped itself??!)

Time in Spanish is also included.  E.g. Voy al colegio a las ocho en punto …

Listen and repeat as often as you like …  Practice makes perfect!

A day in the life of Gonzague, a 12-year old French boy, from when he gets up and goes to school to when he goes to bed, with audio in French and English, pictures and subtitles.

Que fais-tu?  What do you do?
Qu’est-ce que tu fais?  What do you do?

Tu rentres à quelle heure?  What time do you come home?

Practise using ‘quarter past’, ‘half past’ and ‘quarter to’ the hour in French!
une heure et quart  =  quarter past one
une heure et demie =  half past one
deux heures moins le quart  = quarter to two  (it translates literally as two o’clock minus a quarter!)

This is a charming story in very simple French for beginners about the antics of mischievous Maggie!  It is a true story.  Maggie has always been a character, but she only started playing this particular trick on Billy in the last few months!

In Spanish, COLOURS go AFTER the noun they describe:
SO … the word order of ‘a black dog‘ is swapped round to ‘a dog black‘ = un perro negro

French prepositions with modes of transport in French:   Use  à  or  en:

il va en voiture  -  he goes by car
il va en avion    -  he goes by airplane
il va en bateau  -  he goes by boat
il va en train     –  he goes by train
il va en moto   –   he goes by motorbike
il va à pied       –  he goes on foot
il va en vélo     –  he goes by bicycle … (you can also say ‘il va à vélo’)
